Based in the centre of Glasgow, we provide easy access to Glasgow Airport, Edinburgh Airport, and main rail and bus links. Our large Glasgow depot also offers secure on-site parking for customer vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a standard car licence?

If you hold a Category B licence (which most car drivers do), you can drive a motorhome as long as it is 3,500 kg or less (which all Atlas’s vehicles are).

You must have held a licence for more than 2 years.

Standard cover is available for drivers aged between 25 and 75 at the time of the hire.

Younger or older drivers; 24 and up to 79 are accepted as long as there are no penalty points on their licence.  CDW waivers are not available for these groups.

 

Is insurance included?

Yes, fully comprehensive insurance cover is included for the first driver excluding windscreen and tyres.  Additional drivers can be added during the booking process; up to 3 drivers.

A security deposit of £2,000 will taken as a pre-authorisation when you collect the vehicle.  No funds are actually drawn.  We offer additional CDW insurance to reduce the excess from £2,000 to £750 or £250.  We also offer insurance to cover windscreens, tyres and wing mirrors.

What is the security deposit and how does it work?

Who provides the security deposit?

The security deposit must be provided by a driver of the vehicle.   If you are not the driver we will not be able to accept your card.

What is the security deposit?

This is a financial bond that is provided to cover for damage to the vehicle.  The amount is £2000 and will be requested on vehicle collection day.  We conduct a pre-authorisation on a credit or debit card (no American Express or currency cash cards).  We pre-authorise (swipe) your card for the amount.   As this is a swipe only, funds are not taken, they are only held in case we need to access them at a later date.   For this to work there must be sufficient credit limit or funds in the account to support the level of security deposit.  Very rarely on non UK debit or credit cards it may look like the funds have been taken.  This is not the case, it is a peculiarity of some non UK card issuers. A pre-authorisation does not take the funds from your account.   It blocks the availability of these funds until the pre-authorisation is released.

What are situations that would create a charge to your security deposit?

In the event of an accident or collision the insurance excess will be charged. This is £2000 unless a CDW insurance package has been purchased.   A CDW will reduce the excess to £750 or £250 depending on package purchased.

Any damage to the vehicle that has occurred during your hire.

Any unpaid parking fines will be charged

Vehicle not returned in same condition and interior cleanliness as provided on collection day.

Vehicle not refuelled sufficiently on return.

What is Collision Damage Waiver?

The CDW is an additional insurance policy you can purchase from us prior to the commencement of your hire.   The CDW will reduce the damage excess in the event of an accident to a reduced level.   This can be £750 or £250 depending on policy purchased.  The CDW is only valid for the first claim.   If a subsequent accident or damage occurs then the standard excess of £2000 will apply.   See section 19 on our terms and conditions for a comprehensive explanation.

How do I purchase the Collision Damage Waiver?

The CDW must be purchased before the hire commences.   When making your booking select the appropriate collision damage waiver option from the Insurance and Risk tab on the options selector.    If you have already made a booking and wish to add this insurance, you can visit your booking dashboard and add this option.  Lastly, you can opt to purchase this additional insurance at the time you collect the vehicle.

What info do I need to bring on collection day?

All drivers need to be present on collection of the vehicle and bring their full valid licence and ID documents.  Your booking email and our website provide information on documents required.

You will also require a credit or debit card for the security deposit.

Are we Pet Friendly?

All our vehicle types are pet friendly; 2 pets max.  We have a flat rate charge for customers bringing a pet.  It is not per pet or per day.  Simply select the Pet Friendly Vehicle Available option when making your booking.

Can your vehicles work off grid, away from campsites?

Yes, our motorhomes & campervans can operate fully off grid, away from campsites.

They are designed to be self-contained and allow comfortable use without mains electricity.  The leisure battery powers lighting, water pumps and USB charging points and is recharged by driving or solar panels.

Gas is used for cooking, heating & hot water and powering the fridge / freezer.

A fresh water tank supply sinks, the shower and toilet; waste water is stored in a separate tank until is can be emptied safely at a service point.

How long can you stay off grid?

This depends mainly on how much power, gas and water you are using, but many customers stay off grid for several day before needing to refill or empty tanks.

Is a gas bottle included?

Yes, you will be supplied with a gas bottle, which is a third or more full.  If you are planning to wild camp away from campsites, we recommend you purchase a 2nd gas bottle via the options tab when you book, as gas will be needed to power your heating, hot water and fridge / freezer if you are not plugged in.

Can I take the motorhome to Ireland or Europe?

No, we do not allow our vehicles to be taken outside of the UK.  We allow vehicles to be driven within Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.   All UK Islands are included also.

What happens if I need to cancel?

We understand that plans sometimes have to change. If you do need to cancel, the charges depend on how far in advance you let us know:

  • More than 8 weeks before arrival: 25% of your booking total
  • 4–8 weeks before arrival: 50% of your booking total
  • 2–4 weeks before arrival: 75% of your booking total
  • Less than 2 weeks before arrival, or a no-show: 100% of your booking total

How do I cancel?

Please let us know in writing. Email is fine. The cancellation date is the day we receive your notice, so do make sure you get a confirmation back from us.

When will I get my refund?

Where a refund is due, we’ll process it within 28 days of receiving your cancellation. If you’ve made a partial cancellation involving a vehicle return, we’ll process it within 28 days of the vehicle coming back to us.

What about travel insurance?

If your reason for cancelling is covered by your travel insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim some or all of these charges. We strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance before your trip, and making sure it’s right for your needs. It’s one of those things that’s really worth doing.
